how to be single

Being Single 101-

Now, I have been single for just over a year, however, it was only recently that I was truly single and appreciated my own time. What I mean is many of us are single, but I wonder how many of us are truly single, more so I wonder how many of us are intent and happy with being on our own.

When my relationship ended, I knew it was the best thing for me and I also knew that I would be starting a newer happier adventure, yet I was never “single”. I was never appreciating my own time.

Now when I talk about being single and alone, I mean enjoying your own company. After a break up the idea of being single can be scary, however, you should take it as an opportunity to redefine and rediscover yourself. Once I became single I found out so much about myself that I didn’t know to be honest it was a blessing in disguise. During the early stages of my break up, I was surrounded by family and friends, but the time I had alone was the most important as I needed to be happy with myself before I allowed myself to be with anyone else.

So below I will give you some of my favourite single tips-

  1. Take yourself on a date, as you would with a partner, enjoy the company of yourself.

  2. Go on a nice walk or a bike ride and take in your surroundings

  3. Find some new hobbies for yourself to enjoy

  4. Blast some of your favourite songs ( Céline Dion - all by myself) except I wanna be…

  5. Try some arts and crafts

  6. Buy yourself flowers or new decorations for your room

  7. Binge-watch movies with yourself and snacks

I recommend...

  • Bridget Jones’ Diary (all three of them)

  • How to be single

  • And Central Intelligence

So basically amazing films with amazing actors…comedies of course!

8. Don’t necessarily look for a relationship straight away, of course, this depends on how you are feeling, but if you want to enjoy your singlehood then the activity of looking for a relationship will have an effect.

9. Limit your social media/ screen time… as you can not fully enjoy your own company when you are bound to a screen

10. Journal … I say it always because it works!

11. Focus and work on yourself

12. Get some exercise in… it does wonders for your mental health

One of my favourite quotes comes from the movie ‘How to be single’ and it goes…

“The thing about being single is, you should cherish it. Because, in a week, or a lifetime of being alone, you may only get one moment. One moment, when you're not tied up in a relationship with anyone. A parent, a pet, a sibling, a friend. One moment, when you stand on your own. Really, truly single. And then...

It's gone.”

^ There is some food for thought for you guys. Xx
