Finding the shift towards "me time"

Oh, how enticing does the phrase "me time" sound? We occasionally question whether there are enough hours in the day for that. And the short answer is YES! To create that space in your routine, you just need to make the necessary changes and stop your bad habits.

One of the best times for your "me time" is before bed, I used to find myself mindlessly scrolling for hours on TikTok and simply losing track of time. However, I decided to deactivate my Tiktok account, to be honest, it was bound to happen as I found the app was having a daunting effect on my mental well-being due to the severe toxicity of the app. I initially was only going to delete it for five days and then get my account back, however, after five minutes of being back on the app I could not have been quick enough to delete it again. Deleting the app improved my happiness and my sleep quality, I have been having a good eight hours' worth of uninterrupted sleep every night since and am still yet to receive the dreaded fomo. Instead of scrolling, I decided to each night either watch a movie or read a book and some nights when I haven't felt tired enough to go to sleep I have just combined the two. Don't get me wrong maybe soon I will re-download the app for a bit, but for now I am fine without it.

Another bad habit I found beneficial to break was my screen time, when I checked my screen time I was appalled, however, I wasn't surprised because I am self-aware of my tendencies to get lost scrolling through my feed for hours on end. So I decided to limit my screen time to 50 minutes per social media app, and guys... when I tell you that it is the best thing I have done, it really is. It has shifted my mindset for the better! Instead, when I find myself wanting to scroll I go for a walk (Anaia's Guide to Walking). Don't get me wrong I don't think completely eliminating social media is necessary, but depending on how you feel and how much time it's consuming perhaps taking a step back will be helpful for you.

When you have found some time for yourself make sure you are looking after yourself. As cliche as that sounds sometimes we are so wrapped up in other priorities we don't t make that conscious effort to check in on ourselves. Set a routine that will make you happy for example before bed I do a home workout, have a shower, do my skincare, do some writing, throw on a true crime/ read a book, make a cup of tea, journal my thoughts, and finally put on a podcast to help me sleep. Works wonders.

Oh, guys let me tell you about journaling! I started doing this a few months ago and five notebooks later I can confidently tell you it is probably the best thing ever. I love it. In my journal, I write about my day, rants, thoughts I have, any worries, and anything that comes to mind. Literally anything. I highly recommend it.

Remember to look after yourself and keep your body healthy! Love AAJ Xx
