Your First Car

I am a firm believer that there’s something special about reaching significant milestones in life —whether it’s a new job, a fresh start in a new city, or, in this case, getting your driving license and your very first car!

There’s nothing quite like the feeling you get when you hold your license in your hand for the first time, that glossy card represents not just permission to hit the road, but a new chapter of life. If you're a new driver, like myself, then this branch blog is for you. Let’s talk about the essentials that will help you embrace your newfound freedom and turn your car into a comfortable space.

The License: The Key to Independence

Getting your driving license is so exciting, trust me. The moment I found out I had passed my test I remember crying. With tears of joy that is. I suppose it is an overwhelming feeling as it not only signifies the ability to drive; it marks your transition into adulthood, and this is a time to explore, discover, and distinguish your path. Cherish that feeling! You’ve achieved something so amazing, and if you're anything like me it's something you've waited a while for. Perhaps you remember the nerves leading up to the test, or the euphoric feeling when you first drove the roads on your own.

Searching for the perfect first car

After attaining your licence, it's time to choose the right car for you. This is the time to let your individuality shine through! Which would you pick: an eco-friendly hybrid, a sporty little number, or the timeless Fiat 500? (I went for the Fiat 500).

Here are some things you should think about:

1. A trustworthy Car: Make sure the car you choose is dependable. Reliability is key for roadside comfort, whether it's a cherished family hand-me-down or coming from a trustworthy dealership ensure it is suitable for you.

2. Safety First: Give top priority to safety features such as crash test ratings, ABS, and airbags. It can be unnerving to consider the worst-case scenario but as a new driver, being prepared for everything is a responsible step.

3. Financial Considerations: In addition to the initial purchase, take into account the ongoing expenses for your car maintenance, insurance, fuel, and repairs. (Tip: Before you buy a car, find out how much insurance will cost. You don't want unpleasant surprises.)

Must-Haves for Your First Car

Now that you have your car, let’s make it feel a bit more like home! Here are some of my favourite tips!

1. A small emergency kit:

This should include items like a first aid kit, torch, wet wipes, etc.

2. Music and Navigation Setup:

Whether you’re using a phone mount for navigation or Bluetooth for hands-free calls, make sure your tech is ready for the ride. As you don’t want to be distracted whilst you're driving. Create driving playlists that elevate your mood.

3. Comfort Items:

Think of items that make your car feel unique to you. Perhaps a seat cover, a cosy blanket for road trips, or even an air freshener that is your favourite scent.

4. A Journal:

With the guarantee of many adventures ahead, take the time to document your journeys. Capture not just the destinations, but the memorable moments you may have along the way—like the impulsive stops for ice cream or the stunning views you stumble upon.

5. Cleaning things:

My favourites are cleaning putty and a microfibre cloth

So as you embark on this new, exciting journey, remember to celebrate every mile you take! Make memories, explore new places, and embrace the adventures that lie ahead.
